Hannah Niswonger

Functional Pottery with a Sense of Humor

Based in Winchester, Massachusetts, Hannah Niswonger brings two of her passions together: painting and the sculptural object. "I love the immediacy of the connection people make with images of animals," Hannah says. Her amazing, expressive portraits of animals on functional pottery have been delighting us at Pinch for years. Created from hand-built from slabs of clay, her white stoneware pots are decorated using a Chinese calligraphy brush.

Hannah received an MFA in ceramic sculpture from Alfred University in Alfred, New York and has taught ceramics courses at a number of prestigious colleges and universities. Of her recent work at the Smithsonian Craft Show, Hannah says, "I love the practical questions of functional pottery. I seek to create work with humor and an idiosyncratic sense of beauty.  If you love what you see here or have any questions, please call Pinch at 413-586-4509 or email info@pinchgallery.com.
