Material Good

Social Impact through Art

Handmade in Seattle of Washington clay, the Little Shirley vase is a great gift to give while also giving back to the world. Material Good donates 10% of their sales to a variety of causes, including breast cancer research.

Material Good founder Lauren began requesting donations for breast cancer after her grandmother Shirley was diagnosed, and started making the vases as a tangible gift in return.

Each vase is individually slip-casted and hand-finished on a wheel. Vases are fired and heated twice in a kiln that reaches temperatures as high as 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit. All Little Shirley vases are carefully hand-glazed, sanded and stamped with the authentic Material Good logo.

Material Good strives to support community businesses by using local materials as much as possible. Their studio equipment (benches, kiln and wheels) are all reused or refurbished, giving new life to something old. Material Good uses energy efficient kilns and keeps firing loads full to ensure energy is used conservatively.

PINCH carries the Little Shirley ($25) vase, along with Material Goods larger vase ($35), in a variety of glazes.
