Designers Janna Ugone & Justin Thomas combines Janna's academic background in jewelry and ceramics with her professional expertise in product design along with Justin's innate design sense and love for "modern industrial" to bring us this eclectic collection of fine lighting, clocks, mirrors and wall hooks.
Inspired by natural forms and honest materials, a timeless palette and genuine passion for truly handmade lighting, Janna Ugone & Justin Thomas synchronize vintage, contemporary and industrial elements. The result: distinctive, multi-dimensional goods that transform space and stir the imagination.
Brand new from Ugone & Thomas: animal panels (shown above) and porcelain bird lamps (shown below), as well as bird figurines you can perch on the lamp bases or nearby.
Designed with an enthusiasm for detail and handcrafted in their Easthampton, MA studio, every Ugone & Thomas lamp is unique. The shades are printed on museum quality archival paper or hand cast out of earthenware clay, then multi-fired to achieve a rich and varied glazed surface before being signed, dated and hallmarked.
"As an artist," states Ugone, "I am attracted to the materials and imagery that reflect a blend of historic and contemporary design. Landscapes, botanical imagery, travel, and journal drawings are recreated through narrative paintings. In my pewter work, the metal detailing is created from my attraction to the intimate scale of jewelry. As a lighting designer, my objective is to construct a solid and functional lamp to be enjoyed for generations.”
Bases include handmade ceramic, brushed copper with green Vermont slate or hand-forged steel with reclaimed northeastern white pine, each carefully selected to complement the shade. Hand sculpted satin-finish pewter pull charms and finials complete the lamps.
Glazed earthenware and giclee clocks feature their signature pewter detailing. Measuring 10" square or 10" in diameter, all clocks are outfitted with Seiko clock mechanisms and use a standard AA battery. The mirror and wall hook artwork is archivally printed and mounted on hand painted HDF. All Ugone & Thomas work is signed, dated and hallmarked.
