Michael and Josh Cohen

Stoneware tiles, spoon rests, and sponge holders
Pelham, Massachusetts

Michael Cohen has been a full-time studio potter since 1961. His pottery and ceramic sculptures have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, and are part of many museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art’s Design Collection in New York City.

In Michael’s words, “In 1997 I created a line of tiles that have become extremely popular. So popular that I had to stop making my wholesale line of pots and devote myself to making only tiles. There are 36 different designs. Some designs come and go and others have become perennial best sellers. The most fun in the process is creating the new stamps. For each new stamp in the line there are six that don't make the cut. Stamps are usually made in several versions until they look just right.”

Michael and his son, Josh Cohen, work together in their Pelham, Massachusetts studio to create their cobalt blue glazed tiles, sponge holders and spoon rests. Each piece features a crackled-glass process stamp in the center with designs such as heart, dragonfly, cat, teapot, sun, star and many more. Each tile is $28, a spoon rest is $21 and sponge holder is $16. Please contact pinch for further options.
