Original mixed media wall art, wearable vintageRevere, Massachusetts
Nicole Deponte is a Boston-based multi-media artist, who exhibits her work throughout the New England area; her work can be found in private collections across the United States. After graduating from the Sculpture Department at the Massachusetts College of Art in 2000, she has spent the past four years exploring drawing as an "object thinker". Deponte's focus on non-traditional techniques and processes introduces an on-going theme of action and response through her material. She challenges the edge of the paper with her purposeful line, experimentation with organic shapes, and strong color vocabulary. In her new series, "delicates", Deponte begins to marry our idea of identity with the adornment of accessory.
According to Nicole, "Paper has an amazing way of reacting. I feel that it has the ability to compensate for change, much like the brain compensates for loss of sense. As paper absorbs moisture, it bends and twists, fighting to maintain its original shape. I often find inspiration lying in the grass, gazing up at sun through branches, fixated on the iridescent shapes gracefully gaining and losing form. My process is informed by these discoveries as well as everyday objects that seduce my curiosity. The glossy varnishes that I employ remind me of honey, nail lacquer, and water-filled bottles. I combine watercolor with collage, drawing material from magazines. I find the ephemeral watercolor juxtaposed with the sharp, morphed clippings to be seductive. My work combines indulgence with restraint. "
In addition to representing Nicole Deponte's original paintings, Pinch also carries her "wearable vintage" button hairpins and brooches.
